The Housing Studies Association, in collaboration with the Housing Studies Charitable Trust, is delighted to announce that abstract submissions are now open for the Ben Pattison Prize 2026.

Established in memory of Dr Ben Pattison — a dedicated and much-missed housing researcher and former HSA Executive Committee member — this annual award celebrates outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate research that addresses housing inequality, a field to which Ben devoted his career.

Who Can Apply?

The Prize is open to undergraduate and taught postgraduate students currently or recently enrolled at a UK university. Both self-nominations and nominations by dissertation supervisors, tutors, or Heads of Department are welcome.

Eligible Research Themes:
🏠 The private rented sector
🏠 Regeneration
🏠 Housing and welfare
🏠 Lived housing experiences
🏠 Alternative forms of housing
🏠 Housing and health inequalities

Key Dates:
📅 7th August 2026 – Deadline to submit abstract and nomination form
📅 17th August 2026 – Notification of shortlisted candidates
📅 11th September 2026 – Deadline for full dissertation submissions (shortlisted candidates only)
📅 TBC – Winners announced at the HSA Autumn Lecture

Awards:
🏆 £150 awarded to the winner in each category (undergraduate and postgraduate)
🏅 £50 awarded for a runner-up or special commendation

Complete the form, including a 500-word abstract.
