Who should be a member of HSA?

Anyone who is interested in housing studies and research can join the association and we are keen to recruit members from across the housing studies community and throughout the UK, including:

  • Students of vocational housing courses or those undertaking housing related post-graduate research;
  • Academics with housing research interests;
  • Researchers working in non-academic environments such as local government, the social housing movement, the voluntary sector, private sector housing agencies, government offices and arms-length agencies;
  • Policy makers, practitioners and decision-takers across the housing community who are interested in research and in the application of research to policy and practice

Member benefits

  • Members get reduced rates to all our events, and some other housing sector events with partner organisations;
  • Members can use the HSA blog as a means to disseminate their own news, research and ideas;
  • Members can promote their research in the Housing Quality Network's quarterly 'Evidence' newsletter;
  • We have an event sponsorship programme to support members to disseminate and discuss their work;
  • We provide a number of bursaries to support early career and unfunded housing researchers to attend our annual conference;
  • We are pleased to run the Valerie Karn prize, rewarding the best early career paper at our annual conference
  • As a learned society, we nominate members as fellows to the Academy of Social Sciences

Membership payments are taken via direct debit. This will renew each year automatically unless it is cancelled. Members will receive an email to remind them when their membership is coming up for renewal. If you do not wish your membership to renew then all you need to do is cancel the direct debit before the renewal date. If, for some reason, you are unable to pay your membership fee by direct debit, please email the treasurer (contact details can be found on the committee page)

*Please note that lifetime membership is a one-time fee. The joining form shows £125/y but your membership will be manually updated by our administrators after you join to last a lifetime without renewing.
