Recognising Excellence in Housing Research and Practice

The Housing Studies Association is inviting nominations for one of the highest national honours in the social sciences: Fellowship of the Academy of Social Sciences (FAcSS).

The Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS) is the UK’s national academy of academics, learned societies and practitioners in the social sciences. Its mission is to promote social science in the United Kingdom for the public benefit.

The Academy comprises around 1,100 individual Fellows, 42 Learned Societies, and a number of affiliates, together representing nearly 90,000 social scientists. Fellowship (FAcSS) recognises distinguished scholars and practitioners from academia, policy, and practice who have made a substantial contribution to the social sciences beyond the normal requirements of their role, including demonstrable impact on policy and/or practice.

As a member Learned Society, the Housing Studies Association is entitled to nominate up to five candidates per round (maximum ten per annum), with nomination rounds typically taking place in June and December.

Fellowship Criteria

Fellowship of the Academy is a significant national accolade. Nominees must demonstrate:

  • A sustained and substantial contribution to the social sciences
  • Evidence of impact on policy, practice, public debate, or professional standards
  • Esteem and recognition within their field
  • Contribution that extends beyond routine academic or professional duties

Eligibility

The proposer and nominee must not be based at the same institution.

Both must be established current members of the Housing Studies Association.

Applications will be reviewed by the HSA Board. Nominees will be notified if their application is selected for submission to the Academy.

We encourage members to consider who within our community has made a transformative contribution to housing research, policy or practice, and to put forward candidates whose work merits national recognition.

Deadline for nominations to the Housing Studies Association is the 10th April 2026 at 4pm.
